October 15, 2006:

Robert Solomon, MD, FACEP was elected to the ACEP Board of Directors on Sunday, October 15, 2006 by the ACEP Council

EMS Information:

West Virginia's ACEP's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) committee and committee members serve as a resource for state ACEP members as well as the general emergency services community. EMS activities of interest to the state chapter include virtually all aspects of prehospital care-- not simply that provided by ambulance service personnel. As a group we are also interested in the activities of fire, rescue and other rapid response organizations and accordingly are dedicated to the study of trauma, injury prevention, aero-medical services and disaster medicine.

Committee activities include:
  1. Monitoring state and local EMS activities in order to make appropriate recommendations on policy, standards, legislation, liability and educational issues.
  2. Serving as an information source for inquiries on EMS-related topics from state ACEP members and others.
  3. Monitoring state legislation and local regulations that affect EMS, in conjunctions with national ACEP's monitoring of federal legislation from their Washington, DC office.
  4. Assisting both individuals and organizations with various types of EMS issues such as funding and application of recent advances in technology.
  5. Representing the state chapter's interests with national EMS organizations as well as our own state and local governments.
  6. Developing and promulgating short-course educational programs relevant to EMS. We have already provided training for a significant number of individuals and organizations in Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS). We recently added Advanced Pediatric Life Support (APLS) to the curriculum of our Winter Conference and anticipate offering this course at other locations in the future on the basis of the very positive responses it has generated. Future plans call for the review of various other training opportunities and products for EMS.
